Location & Getting Here:

Junction of MT Hwy 43 and Hwy 278, west of I-15, in extreme southwest Montana. Nearest airport is Butte.
Cold, dry powder snow comes early and stays late, assuring great sledding. If you seek challenge and solitude and don't mind sharing the trails with moose, elk and other wintering wildlife, Wisdom is the place for you. There are friendly folks in town to keep you company after the sun goes down, plus hot springs resorts and downhill/cross-country skiing nearby.
 
  TRAILS:
Join the popular Wise River-Polaris Trail (see Dillon/Polaris) and Wise River trails (see Wise River) or the Steel Creek trails just east of Wisdom or head west on the Gibbonsville Road, which continues all the way to Salmon, Idaho. The Placer Creek Trail crosses the Continental Divide near Lost Trail Pass and drops into the Bitterroot Valley. Snowmobilers will also enjoy the Stewart Meadow Complex in this system.
